Here are examples of different course depending on the current, wind and waves at the time of departure.

Four strong currents surround the Faroe Islands, and this makes the current between the islands a major component in planning a trip by sea.

Even for a large ship like Norðlýsið, respecting the current has positive effect on the speed and comfort of the sailing.
